International Cooperation in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development, Public Health
Acting on a global scale
The global challenges for environmental protection and a sustainable development have to be tackled not only on a local scale but also through transnational action, as in climate protection, for example. In the sector of public health increasing challenges are also posed by an expanding globalisation and liberalisation in fields such as tourism and international circulation of goods. Many international organisations and conferences are addressing these global issues along with the joint action that is required. Bavaria plays an active role in these international processes.
Bavaria’s competence in international environmental and public health
Bavaria boasts many years of in-depth experience in the fields of environmental protection and public health . In the sphere of international cooperation this involves commitments, challenges and opportunities:
- The commitment to contribute towards tackling global issues and to enable our foreign partners to share Bavaria’s know-how, thus helping them deal with the tasks they have to face
- The challenge to meet future international requirements for prevention, preventive action and information, enabling us to determine risks threatening people in Bavaria at an early stage and to control these risks
- The opportunity to export Bavarian competence and technologies thus avoiding cross-border pollution, securing quality of life and strengthening Bavaria as a whole.
International cooperation with industrial nations
Cooperation with these nations is aimed at exchanging leading know-how on a global scale, within the framework of an international network in order to
- Include Bavaria in international benchmarking through
- Discussions on a technical and political level as well as cooperation projects
- Examine foreign best practice models, especially innovative tools and methods, for their transferability to Bavaria and their possible implementation in an appropriate form.
International cooperation with CEE, SEE and CIS countries
In the countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), South Eastern Europe (SEE) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) there is a great need for measures providing a sustainable improvement and securing quality of life and the environment.
Bavaria assists these countries by transferring essential environmental know-how within twinning projects, through feasibility studies, training and advanced training seminars as well as by allowing experts and executives to observe work procedures on the spot.
Especially in the new EU countries a growing importance will in future be attached to measures for prevention, preventive action and information in the health sector, as well as measures for ensuring reliable inspections, transparent quality assurance systems.
International cooperation with emerging and developing countries
Here the focus is on activities such as the exchange of experts and advanced training measures. As defined in the provisions of RIO, support is given to specific projects in partner regions, which can contribute towards a sustainable development in the fields of waste and water management, environmental education as well as preventive health care.
